The Southern Ghostlands
The Southern Ghostlands are part of Tyria’s largest high-altitude plateau, alongside the Central and Western Ghostlands. Where the Central Ghostlands are a vast grassy steppe, the Southern Ghostlands are mostly high-altitude desert, full of sand and rocky terrain, and littered with the ruins of ancient civilisations.
Among the most notable features are the Pillars of Heaven, a collection of megalithic pillars many hundreds of miles long and dozens of miles wide, through which the deadly and unpredictable Aetherstorm travels. Within the Storm Corridor are caravan towns called Sanctuaries, each a fortress in its own right, whose walls provide islands of safety from the devils and fiends that haunt the wild lands. Each Sanctuary features powerful wards that protect those within from the soul-shredding arcane might of the Aetherstorm.
